In the midst of our busy, stressful, and fast-paced daily lives, we oftentimes seek refuge in places that can provide us with a rich dose of solace, comfort, and relaxation — places that will allow us to pause so that we can recharge and feel well again. This is exactly what Urban Ashram Yoga wants for us as they bring to us Urban Yoga 2016, one of the biggest yoga events of the year.
This Sunday, April 17, Urban Yogis (whether seasoned, beginner, or first-timer) across the metro will gather at the Ayala Triangle Gardens, that serene urban oasis in the center of the busiest business district in the country. And yes, we are all invited! Here’s why we should all go:
1. IT WILL BE GRACED BY THE PRESENCE OF WORLD-RENOWNED YOGA TEACHER JOAN HYMAN.
Joan Hyman has been traveling from country to country to lead yoga teacher trainings, workshops, and retreats, and she’s been doing this for over 20 years! She’s conducted several trainings in the Philippines and she’ll be back in Manila this weekend for Urban Yoga! How lucky can we get, right?! She’ll be conducting a musical vinyasa class from 9:30 to 11:00 am. She’s only here once in a while so I say we take advantage of this opportunity to learn from her, shall we?
2. THERE IS A YOGA CLASS TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS.
Whether you want to energize and jumpstart your day with a morning vinyasa or just breathe and relax with the help of pranayama, there’s a class for you at Urban Yoga. Aside from Joan Hyman’s musical vinyasa class, the teachers of Urban Ashram will also be there to lead the other classes being offered. Here’s the schedule:
8:00-9:00 Morning Vinyasa with Marc Macadaeg
9:00-9:30 Pranayama with Lasse Holopainen
9:30-11:00 Musical Vinyasa with Joan Hyman
11:00-12:00 Community Yoga with Nica Hechanova and Ron Habla
3. IT WILL BE FOR A GOOD CAUSE.
Make that TWO good causes. The first good cause, of course, is YOU — your own health and wellness is always a good cause, and you’ll get to practice yoga c/o Urban Ashram, the premier center for the study of yoga in the Philippines. The second good cause is Mano Amiga Pilipinas, a nonprofit school that provides underprivileged families access to quality education, development services, and other necessary support to uplift their lives and transform communities. Tickets to Urban Yoga are at P750 each, and proceeds will go to Mano Amiga Pilipinas.
4. IT’S A GREAT WAY TO SPEND SUNDAY MORNING WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
The weekend is for loved ones, and this is a perfect activity to do together. Why not enjoy a good lunch with them in one of the Ayala Triangle restaurants after the event?
5. YOGA AND A BIT OF FRESH AIR MIGHT JUST BE WHAT YOU NEED.
I will no longer elaborate on how yoga is beneficial to one’s body, mind, heart, and soul. It’s been proven several times and hundreds of articles on the internet can attest to it. If you’ve been wanting to give yoga a try, this is the venue to do it! Plus, if you’ve been stressed all week, yoga in the fresh, open air might just be what you need.
I haven’t practiced in two weeks due to some personal reasons so I’m really looking forward to this event. It’s health, wellness, and charity all in one fun-filled Sunday morning!
