“I love the smell of possibility in the morning.”
Well, unfortunately, if you live in Metro Manila, the only thing you smell in the morning is the traffic. Our hellish traffic situation is getting worse by the day. Traffic sucks all the energy out of me and once I arrive at the office, I no longer feel fresh because I’m already tired and stressed. Another thing about mornings — I love them, but I don’t like being awakened by an alarm. I’d rather wake up on my own terms and when I feel like it. The sound of the alarm frightens me, so I get up already feeling all anxious and jumpy.
It’s important that I start the day right. By the time I get to work, I want to feel fresh and positive.
I’m sure some of you share the same sentiment. Unfortunately, working people like us have no choice but to bear with the alarm and the traffic. I’ve been trying to instill in me some rituals that are helping me feel fresher in the morning, and I’d like to share them with you. I’m happy to say that these activities have made my mornings a lot better and have been making me more positive and ready to hustle each day!
1. Drink a glass of water as soon as you get up.
I’m sure you’ve already read about the benefits of doing this on some wellness sites. To add to those — I’ve been practicing this for quite some time now, and I can say that drinking a glass of water really is the best “waker-upper”. It helps take away the drowsiness and mild headaches caused by the alarm clock waking you up against your will.
2. Fix yourself up.
This tip is for people like me who don’t really have a “beauty routine” in the morning. After taking a bath, I normally just comb my hair, apply some moisturizer/lotion, grab my stuff, and go. Lately though, I’ve been fixing myself up more because I realized that I looked terrible, especially my hair! I still don’t do the full makeup thing (I don’t think I can ever pull this off), but I try to do at least the basics — I dry my hair then put on some mascara and a lippy.
It’s not much but it’s way better than before. For some reason, fixing myself up just a little bit has also made me excited to go to work and face the day ahead.
3. Leave the house earlier.
Considering the aforementioned traffic situation, I really have no choice but to do this (especially since I transferred to an office that’s farther from my house). It’s been said that going to work earlier makes you more productive and I totally agree with this. Aside from that, though, leaving the house early has made my mornings more enjoyable.
No, I’m still not able to escape the traffic, but at least I still get to arrive early and feel unhurried, less stressed, and more relaxed.
I can say that these three things have helped make me feel fresher in the morning. Item #1 is quite easy to do, I’m trying my best to sustain items 2 and 3. How about you? What other morning rituals can you suggest?
This article is brought to you by One Fresh Cup, Southeast Asia’s very first mobile drip coffee brew! I saw something like this when I went to Taiwan and yes, it’s already available here in the Philippines!!!
Its revolutionary concept will allow you to brew and experience gourmet coffee without a coffee maker! When I first tried this, I really enjoyed the taste plus I was also amazed by the mobile drip technology. My dad loves, being a coffee addict who is very particular of how coffee tastes, loves it too!
Speaking of new things to try in the morning, why not add this to your list? I suggest doing the three items above then having One Fresh Cup to jumpstart your day!
